Waymo

AI might be better at driving than me.

“Bang! Every two miles, the average driver makes four hundred observations, forty decisions, and one mistake. Once every five hundred miles, one of those mistakes leads to a near collision, and once every sixty-one thousand miles one of those mistakes leads to a crash. When people drive, in other words, mistakes are endemic and accidents inevitable”

—Malcolm Gladwell, 2001

Waymo makes revolutionary tech that should fix this problem, but people don’t trust it. Why?

The Business Problem:

An AAA report says that 68% of people distrust fully autonomous vehicles like Waymo, a 13% increase from years past.

This makes literally no sense.

Consumer perception around Waymos is declining as Waymos get better.

The Why:

People like control. They like that when they turn the wheel, the car moves. Many aren’t willing to give that up, especially to a robot.

The Reality:

With Waymo, you aren’t giving up control. You’re actively choosing to make the world safer.

Who’s this for?

Lifelong drivers. Suburbanites who got their licenses at 16, commuted to work for 20 years, and can’t imagine their life without cars.

The Big Idea:

Human error doesn’t belong on the road.
